League Cup Approaching | May-21-17

 

London, Ontario – As teams across all walks of the Western Ontario Soccer League settle into their 2017 skin, the league’s all-encompassing League Cup is set to get underway on Tuesday, May 23.

Round 1 offers a bundle of matches scheduled between Tuesday, May 23 and Wednesday, May 24.

Below is a closer look at each premier division outfit competing in the 2017 edition of the WOSL League Cup.

Tuesday, May 23

  1. Chatham Attack (First Division) vs AEK Olympians – 6:30 pm – St. Clair College Thames Campus
  2. Croatia A vs Wallaceburg A – 6:30 pm – Croatia Field 1
  3. Taxandria A (First Division) vs Marconi A – 6:30 pm – Taxandria Soccer Complex 2
  4. America Pumas vs Tillsonburg B (Third Division) – 8:30 pm – Marconi Club

Wednesday, May 24

  1. Marconi B (First Division) vs St. Thomas A – 8:30 pm – Marconi Club

Note: Jagiellonia* will take on Ingersoll Flyers (Fourth Division) on Wednesday, June 7 at the Polish Canadian Rec. Centre 1 in the second round of the competition. Tillsonburg A are awaiting an opponent from the first round of matches. English FC A and Chatham Express have opted not to participate in this year's competition.

The New Season: 2017 WOSL Premier Division  | April-30-17

London, Ontario – After the chilly winter months of the indoor season officially came to a close this past April, coaches, players, and clubs alike, emerge from the cold with optimism for the new season in the summer sun. This latest edition of the Western Ontario Soccer League is no different. As teams exchange divisions via promotion or relegation, players swapping colours, and clubs reaching out to attract interest and gain early season momentum and fitness levels, there is always a healthy buzz surrounding the pitches of the WOSL during this time.

Below is a closer look at the newest additions to the 2017 Western Ontario Soccer League’s Premier Division.

The New Boys

Wallaceburg “A”

Gained Promotion: First place finish in 2016 WOSL First Division

2016 Record: 13 – 4 – 1 – 43 pts

Notes: The lads from Wallaceburg have found their way back into the premier division following an impressive 2016 campaign. The team last participated in the WOSL premier division in 2013. Welcome back.

America Pumas

Gained Promotion: Second place finish in 2016 WOSL First Division

2016 Record: 14 – 0 – 4 – 42 pts

Notes: America have seen themselves transform from their 4th place (First Division) finish in 2015. The team gained an extra 14 points in 2016 and have earned themselves a place in the premier division for 2017. This will be the team’s first stint in the premier division.

Final preparations and planning will wrap up shortly for all teams as games are scheduled to begin on Friday, May 5. The season kicks off with Tillsonburg A playing host to Wallaceburg A, while America Pumas will gain some valuable premier division experience as they take on Marconi A.

Tillsonburg A vs Wallaceburg A – 20:00 – Tillsonburg Park 1

Marconi A vs America Pumas – 20:00 – TD Mustang

Saturday, May 6

Chatham Express vs Croatia A – 18:30 – St. Clair College – Thames Campus

AEK Olympians vs English FC – 19:00 – Hellenic Community Centre

Sunday, May 7

Jagiellonia vs St. Thomas A – 18:00 – Polish Canadian Rec. Centre 1
